Privacy Policy

RideBeacon ("RideBeacon," "we," "us," or "our") builds a rider development platform for families. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, when we share it, and the choices you have. It applies to the RideBeacon platform, websites, mobile experiences, hardware, RideBeacon Plus, RideBeacon Academy™, Bike Health™, and Digital Maintenance Records™ (collectively, the "Services").

RideBeacon is designed for parents managing their children's bicycles. Parents control the account and the associated rider information. See the Children's Privacy section for details.

Parent information

• Name
• Email address
• Mobile phone number
• Mailing address (for hardware shipment)
• Payment information (processed by our payment provider; we do not store card numbers)

Rider information (children)

• First name (and optional nickname)
• Grade level
• School (when the parent enrolls the school)
• Assigned bicycle(s)

Bicycle information

• RideBeacon ID, manufacturer, model, color, and serial number
• Photos submitted by the parent or a mechanic
• Registration and ownership history

RideBeacon Plus (GPS-assisted monitoring)

• Approximate GPS location while the bicycle is in use
• Ride history (start, stop, duration, general route)
• Safety events (e.g., speed threshold, geofence, hard-braking, parking events)
• Device battery status and connectivity health

RideBeacon Academy™

• Lesson completion and progress
• Quiz answers and results
• Certifications earned (Bronze Rider™, Silver Rider™, Gold Rider™, etc.)

Mechanic records

• Inspection reports, invoices, and service records uploaded by your family
• Maintenance history, parts, labor, and warranty details
• Photos of the bicycle or components
• Recommendations for future service

Technical information

• Device, browser, and operating system information
• IP address and general geolocation derived from IP
• Log data, usage events, and diagnostic information
• Cookies and similar technologies (see Cookies below)

We use the information above to:

• Improve rider safety and awareness.
• Operate, secure, and maintain the RideBeacon platform.
• Provide notifications (safety events, service updates, Academy progress).
• Coordinate with schools where the parent's account is authorized to do so.
• Store the private bike shop or mechanic contact records a parent chooses to save.
• Generate and maintain Digital Maintenance Records™ for each bicycle.
• Generate Bike Health™ recommendations.
• Provide RideBeacon Plus features, including GPS-assisted monitoring.
• Improve our products, curriculum, and safety models in aggregate.
• Detect fraud, abuse, and safety issues on the platform.
• Comply with legal obligations.

RideBeacon does not sell your family's personal information. We share information only as described below.

With Parents

Parents see all information associated with their family, including rider profiles, bicycles, ride activity, Academy progress, and service history.

With Schools

When the parent enrolls their rider in a participating school, RideBeacon shares only the information required for campus safety operations — for example, that a RideBeacon-equipped bicycle is registered to a rider at that school, and school-parking compliance events on campus. Schools do not receive continuous location data or Academy quiz answers. Parents may manage school visibility in Settings.

With Independent Bike Shops and Mechanics

When a parent requests service, RideBeacon shares the information the mechanic needs to perform the work — the bicycle's record, the parent's contact information for scheduling, and prior service history. Mechanics receive only the records for bicycles they are servicing.

With Technology Providers

We use vetted service providers to host infrastructure, process payments, send SMS and email, monitor performance, and provide analytics. These providers may only use the information we share to perform services for RideBeacon.

With Law Enforcement

We share information with law enforcement only when legally required — for example, in response to a valid subpoena, court order, or comparable legal process — or when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect the safety of a rider or another person.

In Business Transactions

If RideBeacon is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, we will notify affected users and honor the commitments in this Policy or provide notice of any material changes.

Location data is only collected for bicycles enrolled in RideBeacon Plus and equipped with a functioning GPS device. It is used to:

• Show the parent the general location of a ride in progress.
• Detect safety events (speed, geofence, parking, unusual movement).
• Support recovery in the event of theft.
• Provide school-parking compliance visibility on enrolled campuses.

Retention

Detailed ride tracks are retained for a limited period (typically 90 days) to support parent review and safety investigations. Aggregated and event-level data (for example, count of parking events, safety event summaries) may be retained longer for Bike Health™ and platform improvement. Parents may request earlier deletion of ride history.

Parent controls

• Pause or disable ride monitoring per bicycle.
• Adjust school visibility.
• Request export or deletion of location history.

If you provide a mobile number, RideBeacon may send you SMS messages about:

• RideBeacon Academy™ progress and lesson delivery
• Safety events
• Service requests and mechanic updates
• Bike Health™ recommendations
• RideBeacon Plus account, billing, and device status

Message and data rates may apply. Message frequency varies. Reply STOP to any RideBeacon message to opt out of transactional SMS; reply HELP for help. Parents may fine-tune SMS preferences at any time in Family Settings.

We use reasonable and appropriate administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information, including:

• Encryption in transit and at rest for sensitive data.
• Authentication requirements, including password requirements and session controls.
• Role-based access controls limiting internal access to information on a need-to-know basis.
• Continuous monitoring, logging, and periodic review of systems handling family data.

No system is perfectly secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately at security@ride-beacon.com.

RideBeacon is designed for parents managing their children's bicycles. Parents control the account and the associated rider information, including bicycles, Academy progress, and any location data collected under RideBeacon Plus.

• Riders under 13 do not create their own accounts and do not receive independent login credentials without parent authorization.
• We collect only the information about a rider that is necessary to operate the Services — first name, grade, school, bicycle, Academy progress, and (for Plus) ride activity for the bicycle assigned to that rider.
• Parents may review, update, or delete rider information at any time from Family Settings, or by contacting privacy@ride-beacon.com.
• RideBeacon does not use rider information for advertising or sell rider information.

We retain personal information for as long as necessary to provide the Services, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. When information is no longer needed, we delete or de-identify it. Digital Maintenance Records™ associated with a bicycle persist for the life of the bicycle's record and may transfer with the bicycle upon change of ownership.

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about your family.
• Request correction of inaccurate information.
• Request deletion of information, subject to legal and safety exceptions.
• Export a copy of your family's data.
• Object to or restrict certain processing.

To exercise these rights, email privacy@ride-beacon.com. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember preferences, secure the platform, and understand how the Services are used. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling some cookies may affect functionality.

RideBeacon is operated from the United States and stores data in the United States. If you access the Services from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date at the top and, for material changes, provide additional notice (for example, by email or an in-app notice).
