1. Acceptance of Terms
These Terms of Service (the "Terms") form a binding agreement between you and RideBeacon ("RideBeacon," "we," "us," or "our") and govern your access to and use of the RideBeacon platform, mobile experiences, websites, hardware, RideBeacon Plus subscription, RideBeacon Academy™, Bike Health™, Digital Maintenance Records™, and any related services (collectively, the "Services").
By creating an account, purchasing a RideBeacon product, or otherwise using the Services, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Services.
2. The RideBeacon Platform
RideBeacon is a rider development platform combining bicycle registration, safety education, optional GPS-assisted ride monitoring, a digital maintenance record for each bicycle, and private maintenance records. Some features are included with any RideBeacon device; others require a RideBeacon Plus subscription or an active school or mechanic relationship.
We may add, remove, or modify features from time to time. We'll make reasonable efforts to notify you of material changes.
3. Accounts
Parent accounts
RideBeacon is designed for a parent, legal guardian, or responsible adult ("Parent") to own the account. The Parent is responsible for all activity on the account, for supervising minor riders, for keeping account information current, and for the security of their login credentials.
Rider accounts
Rider profiles are created and managed by the Parent. Riders under 13 do not create their own accounts and do not receive independent login credentials without Parent authorization. Parents may grant limited access for older riders (for example, viewing Academy lessons) at their discretion.
School participation
Schools may enroll to view aggregated parking, registration, and safety data for RideBeacon-equipped bicycles on their campus. Schools access the platform under a separate school agreement and may only view information necessary for campus safety operations. Parents may opt out of school-facing visibility in Settings, subject to school policy.
Independent bike shops and mechanics
RideBeacon does not operate, certify, vet, endorse, employ, schedule, or supervise any bicycle shop or mechanic. Any inspection, installation, or repair is arranged with and paid directly to the independent provider your family chooses. Parents may upload inspection reports, invoices, and service records, which become part of that bicycle's Digital Maintenance Record. Uploaded documents are records only and never create a payment obligation to RideBeacon.
4. Parent Responsibilities
RideBeacon supports parents; it does not replace them. As a Parent, you remain solely responsible for:
- Supervising your children during and around cycling activity.
- Ensuring each bicycle is safe, mechanically sound, and appropriate for its rider, including regular inspection and maintenance.
- Following all applicable local, state, and federal laws, including helmet laws, traffic laws, e-bike class regulations, and school policies.
- Teaching and reinforcing safe riding practices, route selection, and appropriate riding conditions.
- Keeping account information — including your phone number, email, address, riders, school assignments, and bicycles — accurate and current.
5. GPS and Ride Monitoring
RideBeacon Plus provides optional GPS-assisted ride monitoring intended to give parents awareness of a rider's general location and rule events (for example, speed, geofence, or parking events). GPS monitoring is a supplement to — not a substitute for — direct parental supervision.
- GPS assists parents. It provides periodic location and event data; it is not a real-time surveillance system and is not designed for continuous tracking.
- Availability is not guaranteed. GPS depends on satellites, cellular networks, device battery, hardware condition, third-party carriers, and other factors outside our control. Coverage gaps, delays, and inaccuracies will occur.
- Cellular coverage may affect performance. In areas with poor cellular reception, indoors, or during network congestion, updates may be delayed, missing, or inaccurate.
- Not for emergencies. RideBeacon is not an emergency response service. Do not rely on RideBeacon in place of calling 911 or contacting emergency services.
6. RideBeacon Academy™
RideBeacon Academy™ (including Bronze Rider™, Silver Rider™, Gold Rider™, Certified Safe Rider™, and Certified Community Rider™) provides educational content, lessons, quizzes, and certifications intended to build safer, more responsible young riders.
- Academy content is educational and informational only.
- Academy completion does not replace parental supervision, hands-on skills practice, or professional instruction.
- No certification guarantees safe riding, prevents accidents, or transfers legal responsibility away from the rider or Parent.
- Certifications are issued at RideBeacon's discretion based on lesson and quiz completion and may be revised as our curriculum evolves.
7. Bike Registration
When you register a bicycle with RideBeacon, you represent that you have the right to do so. Registration ties a bicycle to a RideBeacon ID, manufacturer, model, serial number, photos, and current owner. This record is intended to support ownership verification and recovery, and is the permanent record for the bicycle across the RideBeacon platform.
RideBeacon does not guarantee recovery of a lost or stolen bicycle. You are responsible for reporting theft to law enforcement.
8. Bike Health™ and Digital Maintenance Records™
Bike Health™ generates maintenance recommendations based on the information available to RideBeacon — including ride patterns (where available), rider inputs, mechanic inspections, and time since last service. Digital Maintenance Records™ store the service history associated with each bicycle.
- RideBeacon stores service history submitted by Parents, mechanics, and (where enabled) automated sources.
- The accuracy and completeness of a bicycle's record depends entirely on the information submitted. Missing service is not an indication that a bicycle is safe or unsafe.
- Parents may upload their own service records, receipts, and photos.
- Every record is attributed to its source — a document your family uploaded, the bicycle manufacturer's schedule, or information entered by your family.
- Bike Health™ recommendations are informational only and do not replace hands-on inspection by an independent bicycle or e-bike technician.
9. Independent Bike Shops and Mechanics
RideBeacon does not operate, certify, vet, endorse, employ, schedule, or supervise a network of bicycle shops or mechanics, and does not perform inspections, installations, or repairs.
- You choose your provider. Any bike shop or mobile mechanic you use is an independent business you select, arrange with, and pay directly.
- RideBeacon provides the platform. We store the records your family uploads and provide informational reminders; we do not perform mechanical work, create or approve repair estimates, or collect repair payments.
- Installation is not included. RideBeacon devices are designed for plug-and-play installation. Some bicycles require an independent provider to supply the appropriate connector and complete installation, at that provider's cost.
- Workmanship and warranty rest with the provider. Quality of service, diagnosis, parts, repairs, and any warranty or refund are between you and that business. RideBeacon is not a party to that arrangement.
10. Alerts, Notifications, and SMS Communications
By providing a mobile number, you consent to receive SMS messages from RideBeacon regarding your account, including RideBeacon Academy™ progress, safety events, service updates, Bike Health™ recommendations, and RideBeacon Plus notices. Message and data rates may apply. Message frequency varies.
You may adjust notification preferences at any time in your Family Settings. To stop transactional SMS entirely, reply STOP to any RideBeacon message; reply HELP for help. Stopping SMS may disable time-sensitive safety and service notifications.
Email and in-app notifications operate on similar principles and are governed by these Terms and the Privacy Policy.
11. RideBeacon Plus Subscription
Billing and renewal
RideBeacon Plus is a paid subscription billed on the schedule presented at checkout (monthly or annually). Subscriptions renew automatically at the then-current rate until canceled. You authorize RideBeacon to charge your saved payment method for each renewal term.
Cancellation
You may cancel your RideBeacon Plus subscription at any time from Family Settings → Membership, or by contacting support. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; Plus features remain available until then.
Refunds
Except where required by law, subscription fees are non-refundable. We may, in our sole discretion, provide a pro-rated refund for extended service outages or for pilot participants under separate written arrangement. Hardware refund and return terms are presented at the time of purchase.
Price changes
We may change subscription pricing with at least thirty (30) days' notice before the change applies to your next renewal.

You retain ownership of the content you submit (for example, photos of a bicycle, notes, uploaded receipts). RIDEBEACON'S TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SERVICES WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNTS YOU PAID TO RIDEBEACON FOR THE SERVICES IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRECEDING THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM, OR (B) ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS ($100).
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation or exclusion of certain damages. If these laws apply to you, some or all of the above disclaimers or limitations may not apply to you.
17. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless RideBeacon and its affiliates, officers, employees, and agents from any claim, damage, loss, liability, or expense (including reasonable attorney's fees) arising out of or related to your violation of these Terms or your misuse of the Services.
18. Suspension and Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Services at any time for violation of these Terms, for fraudulent or unlawful activity, or to protect the safety of riders or the integrity of the platform. You may close your account at any time from Family Settings.
Sections that by their nature should survive termination will survive, including Intellectual Property, Disclaimers, Limitation of Liability, and Indemnification.
19. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date and, for material changes, provide additional notice (for example, by email or an in-app notice) before the changes take effect. Your continued use of the Services after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
20. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. You and RideBeacon agree that any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Services will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Orange County, California, except where you have a non-waivable right to pursue claims in another forum under applicable law.
